Counseling Services

At Complete Wellness, we believe that every individual has the power to heal and be well within them.  Sometimes the inner resources to make these changes seem out of reach.  Our counseling services can help you find the inner strength, serenity, and motivation to make changes in your life that lead to happiness and fulfillment.  We can help you address a variety of issues with our team of trained and licensed experts.

Individual

The vast majority of our work at Complete Wellness is helping individuals overcome inner distress and empowering them to bring new meaning to their lives.  Our individual counseling services are at the heart of what we offer.

Couples

In Maryland, there were 32,882 marriages and 16,208 divorces in 2012. The number of divorces peaked among individuals between the ages of 40-49 years for the husband and ages 35-44 for the wife. Slightly less than half of all couples had been married fewer than 10 years (48.1%), while approximately 19% had been married 20 or more years. Approximately thirty-six percent of divorcing couples reported having children under the age of 18 years. Couples counseling at Complete Wellness can work for you!  While couples counseling is often a last resort for many couples, it can bring new meaning and strength to any relationship.  Dr. Durwood Whitten has been trained in the Gottman Method through Level 3.

Group

Group counseling offers individuals the opportunity to explore feelings and new behaviors in a safe environment facilitated by licensed and trained counselors.  Many of the issues individuals seek help with can benefit from group treatment.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.  Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal.  EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.  Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes.
